Better than Pumpkin Pie Cake

Total Time: 1 hour 10 minutes

Easy pumpkin pie cake recipe: this is even better than pumpkin pie! Three layers of heavenly pumpkin cake baked with its own nutty topping. Great for holiday dinners or anywhere you need to take a fall dessert.

Ingredients

  • 1 (15 ounce) can pumpkin puree
  • 1 (12 ounce) can evaporated milk
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 2 teaspoons pumpkin pie spice
  • 1 (15 ounce) yellow cake mix
  • ¾ cup butter
  • 1 ½ cup chopped walnuts

Instructions

  1. Combine pumpkin, milk, eggs, sugar, and spices.
  2. Pour in a greased 9×13 pan.
  3. Crumble yellow cake mix on top.
  4. Sprinkle with nuts.
  5. Melt butter; pour evenly over all.
  6. Bake 1 hour at 350°.
  7. Serve with whipped cream.

Do you just use the dry ingredients of the cake mix? It says to crumble not sprinkle.

I may just have to make this for my husband. He hates pumpkin pie.. Looks good and easy.. Since I live in Australia now, if I microwave butternut pumpkin (squash is called pumpkin here) and drain afterwards, would that be sufficient for a pumpkin puree? Thank you, sue
