Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Cookies

Finally perfected this cookie, it took a lot of trial and error, but I think it is amazing now!

The perfect amount of chocolate chips, seriously, can you have too many? I think these cookies are my favorite now. The best ones that I have ever had come to think of it, and I am super picky when it comes to oatmeal cookies, especially chocolate oatmeal cookies. I’ve made a lot of oatmeal cookies and chocolate chip cookies in my baking days, but I really love the addition of chocolate in this recipe. I think that you will too.

Pin Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Cookies

Easy-to-make oatmeal cookies, when done right, and by that I mean a soft, chewy, and not over-baked cookie are some of my favorites. The chewiness, the hearty texture, the nuttiness of the oats, and all the chocolate made these a new favorite twist on a classic.

How do you make chocolate chip oatmeal cookies from scratch?

You will need the following ingredients:

Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Cookies Ingredients
  1. Butter: I used salted butter in this recipe, but you can use unsalted butter. Just make sure to add an additional pinch of salt to your batter.
  2. Granulated sugar: I really like the combination of granulated sugar and brown sugar. The brown sugar adds a slight caramel flavor to the cookies.
  3. Brown sugar
  4. Egg
  5. Vanilla extract
  6. Flour
  7. Baking soda
  8. Salt
  9. Cinnamon
  10. Nutmeg
  11. Oats: I used instant oats for these cookies but you can also use old-fashioned oats depending on your preference. If you use instant oats it will result in a chewier cookie. Old fashioned oats will result in a denser and less chewy oatmeal cookie. Depending on what you prefer you can use either instant oats or old-fashioned oats.
  12. Chocolate chips: I used milk chocolate chips for these cookies. You can also use semi-sweet or dark chocolate chips/chunks for your cookies depending on your preference.

What can I add to my chocolate oatmeal cookies?

These old fashioned chocolate oatmeal cookies taste great as is, but there are always additions and substitutions that you can make with them depending on what your preference is.

Some of these include:

  1. Raisins: Add in an additional ½ cup raisins for a more traditional chocolate raisin oatmeal cookie.
  2. Leave out the chocolate chips: these oatmeal cookies are a great cookie even without the chocolate chips. If you want a less sweet version of the cookie omit the chocolate chips and bake as is.

Instructions:

Gather all of the ingredients.

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.

Cream together butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy, about 1-2 minutes.

Can nuts be added to this recipe?

My favorite nuts to add to these cookies are chopped walnuts or pecans. Add in about ½ cup of nuts with your chocolate chips for a crunchier more flavorful cookie.

How do I store my chocolate chip oatmeal cookies?

Your chocolate chip oatmeal cookies can be stored at room temperature for up to one week. To keep the cookies from becoming stale make sure to store them in an airtight container or covered with plastic wrap. You can freeze them for up to three to six months for better quality.
