Red Velvet Donuts

Red Velvet Donuts are so pretty and delicious. Perfect for your Valentine on Valentine’s Day!

What’s better than a homemade, made from scratch donut? Anyone? Anyone? Nothing I tell you! It was snowing like crazy and I thought I was going to go out of my mind, again. My saving grace is to turn on the oven and to keep baking. It is my peace and serenity.

Since Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, I wanted to bake some delicious and beautiful red velvet donuts. Aren’t they so pretty? Too bad they disappeared so quickly, or I guess that’s a good thing!

Red Velvet Donuts turned out absolutely perfect. Soft and chewy without being too cakey. They were awesome for my first time attempting to make donuts.

Let me tell you that these donuts are so moist! The great thing about baked donuts, they really absorb the moisture from the glaze and become melt in your mouth tender. No need to heat up all of that oil and grease! They are super easy and you will want to make up another batch whenever friends or family stop by. The donut pan is a game changer!

My kids loved the different glaze colors, they are so pretty and festive, plus fabulous to photograph!

I hope that you have a wonderful Valentine’s day with your sweetie pies!

Make sure to have lots of treats for your celebration!

Let’s make these donuts!!

In a bowl, combine the dry ingredients: flour, cocoa, brown sugar, salt, and baking powder.

In a second bowl, combine the wet ingredients: buttermilk, melted butter, vanilla extract and egg.

For the dry ingredients, make a well in the middle of the bowl. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry.

Mix together. Add in the red food coloring or red velvet flavoring/coloring.

Grease the donut pan. (Tip: Grease the pan well!)

Bake for about 10 minutes or until the tops spring back. Allow to cool completely.

In a bowl add powdered sugar and salt. Mix. Add the vanilla, the flavoring extract if you choose, and 2 tbsp milk. Stir.

Slowly add 1 tbsp of milk at a tip until you get the consistency that you want. (I added about 3 – 3 ½ tbsp of milk total.)

Aren’t they beautiful? Almost too pretty to eat…almost…well they were all eaten!
