Oh, and if you’re not a fan of the taste of candy corn, no worries! This recipe doesn’t actually use candy corn in it – it just makes these delicious rice Krispy treats look like a big kernel of candy corn!
Ingredients Needed
Rice Krispies Cereal – you’ll need 6 cups, so be sure and purchase enough cereal.
Mini Marshmallows – you’ll need 6 cups. Make sure your marshmallows are fresh and soft!
Butter – you can use either salted or unsalted.
Orange Gel Coloring – you can use 3 drops of yellow and 1 drop of red to make the orange shade.
Chocolate Almond Bark Candy Coating – or chocolate candy melts.
White Chocolate Almond Bark Candy Coating – or white candy melts.
How To Make Candy Corn Rice Krispy Treats
- Melt butter in a large pot on the stovetop over medium heat before adding in the mini marshmallows, a little at a time. Be sure and stir constantly until they’ve melted.
- Stir in the orange gel food coloring.
- Remove from the heat and add in the rice Krispy cereal, stirring until fully combined.
- Butter your fingers or spatula and lightly press the rice Krispy mixture into a buttered 9×13 pan. Smooth out the top with your fingers or a buttered spatula.
- Once the treats are in the pan, use a sharp knife and cut them into triangles.
- Remove the triangles from the pan and use your hands to gently round the corners of your treats.
- Add the white and dark almond bark chocolate, each to its own bowl, and microwave each until fully melted.
- Start with the bottom of your treats and dip the bottom part into the dark chocolate, then quickly flip over and dip the top in the white chocolate.
- Place treats onto a non-stick mat and allows the chocolate to cure and set.
Pro Tips
- Be sure and grease your fingers or the spatula with butter when pressing the treat mixture into the pan.
- Don’t “pack” the treat mixture into the pan. Just press lightly into the pan and smooth out the top. This will be important when you go to cut and remove the triangles, but most importantly, it will create a softer texture to eat rather than one that’s super hard to bite into.
- Be sure and use chocolate almond bark or candy melts. They’re both made for coating and are easy to work with – there’s no “tempering” of the chocolate required. Just melt it in the microwave and you’re good to go!
- Use gel food coloring. You’ll get a more vibrant orange shade with the gel coloring.
Variations
Sprinkles
If you need a little more decorative bling, add sprinkles to the sections you dipped in chocolate, while they’re still tacky, so that the sprinkles will stick.
Candy Corn Candy
If you do love the actual candy corn candy, lightly press a smattering of the candy into the top of the rice Krispie mixture before you cut the triangles and dip the edges.
Color Change
Change up the color of the chocolate melts – use white and orange, white and yellow, yellow and orange, or any other color combination.
Drizzle Instead Of Dipping
Drizzle on melted chocolate using orange, white, and yellow melts instead of dipping the edges in the chocolate.
Frosting
If you want to move away from melted chocolate, consider applying a thin layer of pre-made frosting in white, orange, and/or chocolate to the ends of each triangle instead. You can easily tint vanilla frosting with orange or yellow gel coloring.
Storage
Store any leftovers in an airtight container for up to a week. They can be kept at room temperature or in the fridge.
