If you have never made a dinner roll before, then this is the best place to start. Let me tell you a secret, these rolls are amazing! Super simple, anyone can make them, and you don’t need a ton of ingredients for this recipe.

I used fresh garlic and rosemary, but if you don’t have fresh herbs on hand, feel free to can use bottled. We are just home from a wonderful trip to Italy for our 25th wedding anniversary. I have been to Europe many times before but never to Italy with my husband. But let me tell you what I was so impressed by, the bread and the rolls. I was speechless, which is pretty tough for me because I can barely shut up when it comes to food.

So as I was baking, I felt like I was back in Italy with my grandmother, helping me bake these rolls. I have made rolls and bread many times before, but these rolls just melt in your mouth, so tender and fluffy and that garlic and butter and fresh rosemary, hubs said they were heavenly, and I agree, this is as close as I have come to it.

I really love to bake. There is just something magical about it. Yeast, flour, sugar, butter and a couple of other ingredients mixed together and you have some really tasty rolls! How cool is that?

Serve these rolls with a roast or soup, or just have a couple them on their own slathered with butter. You will thank me over and over again LOL. Serious comfort food at your fingertips! Literally!

Let’s get to the baking part!

Here’s what you will need to make these rolls:

Follow the instructions on the Fleischmann’s® RapidRise® Yeast and make sure to use lukewarm water and not hot water. Hot water will kill the yeast and your rolls will not rise.

Add water heated to 120˚F-130˚F and follow recipe instructions. Always use a thermometer to check the temperature. If you do not have a thermometer, stick your finger in the water and make sure it isn’t hot.

Also, make sure that the yeast is fresh and hasn’t expired.

Combine 3/4 cup flour, sugar, dry yeast and salt in a large mixer bowl and stir until blended.

Combine milk, water, and butter in a small microwave-safe bowl. Microwave on HIGH in 15-second increments until very warm but not hot to the touch (120° to 130°F. Butter won’t melt completely). Add to flour mixture.

Beat 2 minutes at medium speed of electric mixer, scraping bowl occasionally. Add 1/4 cup flour; beat 2 minutes at high speed. Stir in just enough of the remaining flour (1 to 1-1/4 cups) so that the dough will form into a ball.

Knead on a lightly floured surface until smooth and elastic and springs back when lightly pressed with 2 fingers, about 6 to 8 minutes. Cover with a towel; let rest for 10 minutes.

Cut dough into 12 equal pieces; shape into balls using your hands. Place in greased 8-inch round or square pan.

Bake in preheated 375ºF oven for 20 minutes or until golden brown. During the last 5-10 minutes of baking, brush the garlic herb butter over the rolls, place back in the oven. Remove from pan by running a knife around the edges and invert onto wire rack; brush with additional melted butter, if desired. Serve warm.
