Hi Nettie, really enjoy your recipes. Mississippi Pot Roast is a family favorite. Question for your Mississippi Chicken....my family is not a fan of the dark meat of thighs. How does breast meat hold up for this recipe? Can it be substituted without being dry? Thanks and Happy New Year! Nikki

Hello Nikki,

Yes, chicken breasts work well with this recipe. Happy New Year!

Do you have to use the green pepper ironed don’t like them what can you subistute?

Hi Diana,

You can replace them with any pickled pepper you want. They really just add a very little bit of spiciness and some vinegar. I've made it with pickled banana peppers and didn't notice a difference. I'm thinking the "ranch" is what really makes the flavor plus a little hint of vinegar from the peppers.

I only have unsalted butter. Will that make a big difference in flavor?

Nicole,

I have made this recipe with unsalted butter and added salt to taste if needed.

Thanks for the chicken recipe Nettie. Do you not sear the chicken first before putting it into the crock pot ? I made your recipe for the pot roast which was a big hit with the family....gone in one day, and the recipe called for searing it first.

I don't have to sear the chicken before I put it in the slow cooker. I think because it's a smaller cut of meat so it's not necessary. Nettie
