Oh! And your kids will love these, too. This is a non-caffeinated drink that you can quickly make and enjoy on a hot afternoon. These also make awesome beverages for a party or BBQ.
What is a Frappuccino?
A Frappuccino is a blended beverage that’s made with ice, milk, cream, and the addition of either coffee, ice cream, and/or flavored syrups. There are lots of variations to work with when it comes to making a Frappuccino, but the inclusion of ice, milk, and cream are the foundations of this drink that were made popular by Starbucks.
Here, we’re using vanilla bean ice cream, milk, and ice as our basic flavor canvas that we’ll build on to create this yummy birthday cake-inspired drink.
Do I need a blender to make this drink?
Yes, you will need a high-powered blender that’s capable of easily blending ice along with liquid or other semi-liquid ingredients.
What ingredients do I need to make the Copycat Starbucks Birthday Frappuccino?
Ice – essential to blend into an icy drink
Milk – essential for a creamy texture
Vanilla Bean Ice Cream – essential for cream, flavor, and sweetness
Cake Ball (store-bought or made yourself) – an awesome garnish that makes this a birthday cake drink
Vanilla Extract – to amp up the vanilla flavor
Whipped Cream – for the topping
Sprinkles – garnish for the whipped cream topping
How do I make the Copycat Starbucks Birthday Cake Frappuccino?
Before you make the drink, make sure you’ve either purchased or made the birthday cake-flavored cake balls. You can actually purchase them from Starbucks and keep them in the freezer so you’ll have them on hand.
You can also make the cake balls yourself. I use the Betty Crocker no-bake cookie dough bites mix, store them in the freezer, and just pull them out when I need them for this drink.
- To make the beverage, just add the ice, milk, ice cream, vanilla, and a cake ball to your high-speed blender and blend until smooth.
- Add a few sprinkles to the drink and stir with a spoon to incorporate them.
- Pour into a glass and top with whipped cream and extra sprinkles. Add a straw and enjoy this delightful birthday cake, Frappuccino!
Easy Flavor Variations
This recipe is so simple that it’s a cinch if you want to try some other flavors. I like to keep things easy so switching out ice creams and a few garnishes will give you some other flavors to experience without changing the basic recipe too much.
- Strawberry—Use strawberry ice cream instead of vanilla. Adding a few fresh or frozen strawberries to the blender elevates the flavor, too.
- Chocolate—Use chocolate ice cream instead of vanilla. It’s delicious to add chocolate chips to the blender or stir them in after you’ve blended. Add some chocolate syrup as a garnish on the whipped cream and sprinkles.
- Coffee – use coffee-flavored ice cream instead of vanilla.
- Mint Chocolate Chip—Use mint chocolate chip ice cream instead of vanilla. You can also add chocolate chips to the blender or stir them in after blending. Add some chocolate syrup or chips as a garnish on the whipped cream and sprinkles.
Topping Suggestions
Obviously, sprinkles are always a wonderful choice, but here are some other easy ideas.
- Store-bought syrups such as chocolate, caramel, strawberry
- Melted peanut butter
- Chocolate chips
- Crushed nuts
- Crushed candy bars
- Crushed graham crackers/cookies
Non-dairy versions
If you want to make a non-dairy Frappuccino, you can totally do this with no problem.
- Ice Cream – There are so many non-dairy ice creams on the market these days and they all have the basic vanilla flavor as a starting point, so just substitute your favorite brand for the ice cream.
- Milk – With regard to milk, the same principle applies. Use almond milk, coconut milk, cashew milk, oat milk, or whatever non-dairy milk you choose.
- Whipped Cream – Whipped cream can be made with coconut milk or check your store’s freezer section. They will most likely have a non-dairy version available for purchase.
Ice-cold, full of vanilla flavor, and topped with whipped cream and sprinkles, this Copycat Starbucks Birthday Frappuccino is a frozen drink that will keep you cool and refreshed this summer and beyond.
