How To Make Oreo Ball Truffles
Note: This is a summary of the recipe steps. For complete instructions, see the recipe card down below.
- Using a food processor, pulse the Oreo cookies into fine crumbs.
- Add in the cream cheese and pulse until the mixture is well-blended.
- Use a small cookie scoop to portion out the dough and roll it into 1-inch smooth balls.
- Place all cookie balls on a baking sheet and freeze to set.
- Once set, dip the chilled balls into the melted chocolate, decorate, and freeze or refrigerate again to set.
What Are Oreo Truffle Balls?
Perhaps the easiest no-bake dessert ever, Oreo truffle balls are made with just 2 ingredients: Oreo cookies and cream cheese! The cookies, with the creamy middle still intact, are pulsed into crumbs with the help of a food processor or high-speed blender. Chunks of softened cream cheese are then added in and blended until well-combined. How easy is that?
Once combined, you can form this sweet mixture into truffle-like balls. You will need to freeze or chill them before dipping them in chocolate.
How Do You Melt Chocolate For Oreo Balls?
Melt the chocolate candy wafers in the microwave using a microwave-safe bowl. I like to microwave in 30-second increments, stopping to stir between heatings to make sure the wafers are melting smoothly. Do not overheat or it will ruin the chocolate texture and consistency. You want the chocolate nicely melted, never boiling.
You can also use the double-boiler method on the stovetop, if you prefer, stirring constantly until the chocolate is smoothly melted.
Pro Tip: When using candy melts, add a drop of vegetable shortening or coconut oil to the candy as it melts. This will allow the candy to spread evenly and will help create a smoother shell around the truffle.
How to Dip And Decorate Cookie Balls
- Have your bowl of melted chocolate ready.
- Using two forks, roll each chilled ball in the melted chocolate until evenly coated.
- Gently scoop under the ball with the forks to remove, letting the excess chocolate drip back into the bowl.
- Place the chocolate-coated ball on a baking sheet lined with wax paper.
- Immediately decorate the ball while the chocolate is still tacky enough to hold the sprinkles.
- Continue with each cookie ball until finished and then place the cookie sheet in the refrigerator for about 1 hour or until firm.
Christmas Decorating Themes for Grinch, Ugly Christmas Sweater, and Snowball
Each Christmas theme uses the same base Oreo cookie recipe; the only difference is how you choose to decorate the chilled Oreo balls.
For the Grinch theme, you will need:
For the Ugly Christmas Sweater theme, you will need:
- Green candy melts
- Red candy melts
- White candy melts, almond bark, or chocolate morsels
- Various Christmas sprinkles
For Snowballs, you will need:
- White candy melts, almond bark, or chocolate morsels
- Shredded, sweetened coconut or white sprinkles
How To Store Oreo Cookie Balls
- Refrigerator: Because of their cream cheese content, the Oreo cookie truffles will need to remain refrigerated until ready to serve. Leftovers should go back in the fridge. Store them in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
- Freezer: If making ahead, store the Oreo truffles in an airtight container for up to 1 month. Thaw in the fridge before serving.
