How To Make Schnapps Soaked Cherry Bombs

  1. Rinse the maraschino cherries, and place them in a container with ½ cup peppermint schnapps. Cover and let soak overnight, or at least 4 hours. Shake the container several times.
  2. Drain the schnapps from the cherries, and gently pat them dry.
  3. Melt the white chocolate until creamy, and add in a bit of coconut oil if needed.
  4. Dip each cherry into the white chocolate twice, and then drag the bottom through the crushed peppermint candy.
  5. Set on wax paper, and let the chocolate firm.
  6. Please keep away from children, and enjoy it!

Tips For Making Schnapps Soaked Cherry Bombs

  • Make sure you leave the stems on the cherries – that’s how you’ll pick them up to eat them.
  • Rinse and drain the cherries before adding them to a bowl along with the Peppermint Schnapps. Make sure the alcohol covers them completely.
  • The longer you let the cherries soak, the more the flavor will infuse into the cherries.
  • Make sure to drain all the Schnapps from the cherries and pat completely dry before dipping in the white chocolate, otherwise, the chocolate won’t stick to the cherries.
  • White chocolate melting wafers or Candiquik can be used instead of white chocolate chips.
  • Melt your chocolate in the microwave by using disposable paper bowls. They’re easy to use and cleanup is a breeze!

Can I Use Fresh Cherries?

Sure, but you’ll need to pit them first. Using a conventional cherry pitter won’t work, though, because you would need to remove the stem, and for this recipe, we need the stems to stay intact. You’ll need to remove the pit from the bottom of the cherry. Use a simple single-blade peeler with a sharp point at the end like this one: (https://www.amazon.com/Linden-Sweden-Fruit-Vegetable-Peeler/dp/B00BP3Z8LW/)

How To Pit A Cherry With A Single Blade Peeler

  1. Hold the cherry in one hand and the peeler in the other. Insert the point of the peeler into the bottom of the cherry.
  2. Carefully push the peeler up towards the top of the cherry until you feel the pit.
  3. Using your thumb on the outside of the cherry, gently press the pit against the blade of the peeler.
  4. Keeping gentle pressure on the pit, pull the peeler with the pit back out of the bottom. The pit will slide out easily.

Alternative Booze Ideas

Not a fan of peppermint? Here are some other ideas for drunken cherry bombs.

  • Vanilla vodka, dip in white chocolate, roll in colored sanding sugar or sprinkles
  • Fireball cinnamon whiskey, dip in white chocolate, roll in colored sanding sugar or sprinkles
  • Cake flavored vodka, dip in white chocolate, roll in sprinkles

Is There A Non-Alcoholic Version?

For a non-alcoholic version, soak the cherries in regular cola and then dip them in white chocolate and roll in sprinkles or sandy sugar.

How Do I Store These?

Should you find yourself in the unlikely situation that you have leftovers, store these in a sealed container in the fridge.

These irresistible peppermint Schnapps Soaked Cherries are a fun way to celebrate the season. They’re perfect for your own party, but will be equally appreciated when you show up with them at a friend’s event!
