What Is a Funeral Sandwich?
Funeral sandwiches get their name because they are a type of sandwich often served at funerals. This is a Southern tradition that dates back to as early as 1779 when families and friends bring food and drinks to funerals like these sandwiches.
Make Funeral Sandwiches Ahead of Time
The night before the event, assemble the Funeral Sandwiches right up to where you pour the melted butter on. Instead, cover the sandwiches and place them in the refrigerator. On the day of the event make the butter mixture, melt it, and pour it over the sandwiches, then bake them and pull them out of the oven right before guests arrive.
