Go beyond the classic graham crackers, chocolate, and marshmallow combination and present an enticing display of delectable ingredients to make everyone’s favorite campfire treat – s’mores! Learn how to quickly build your own s’more board with these tips and ideas.
Building a s’mores board is not only easy, it’s practically a requirement if you’re hosting an outdoor BBQ, a camping-themed party, or just need a fun dessert for a crowd. It’s a great way to let your friends and family DIY their own s’mores with a swoon-worthy array of irresistible ingredients.
Whether you call it a dessert tray or charcuterie platter, a s’mores board is guaranteed to be a hit no matter what the occasion. It’s always a winner with kids, no matter how young or old. And if you’re an adult? You’ll love this idea, too!
Why Make A S’mores Board?
My theory on this is that you’re going to need to pull all the ingredients out anyway, so it makes sense to arrange them on a board so everyone can see what’s available and easily grab what they need. Plus, it looks amazing to have all those enticing ingredients out of their original containers and displayed in a mouth-watering fashion.
Your friends and family will be able to see all the options to build their customized campfire treat. With all the delicious options available, a s’mores board lets people easily experiment with different combinations, flavors, and textures.
If anyone has ever wondered if banana or strawberry slices would be a tasty fit if sandwiched in between graham cracker layers along with chocolate and marshmallows, here’s their chance to find out. Oh, and the answer is, “Yes!”
S’mores Board Ingredient Suggestions
- Crackers: regular graham crackers, cinnamon graham crackers, chocolate graham crackers, Ritz crackers
- Chocolate: Hershey’s chocolate bars, Andes mints, Rolos, peanut butter cups, chocolate chips,
- Marshmallows: jumbo, regular, mini
- Cookies: Nilla wafers, Biscoff cookies, Oreos, Nutter Butter cookies
- Fruits: sliced bananas, sliced strawberries
- Candies and Nuts: M & M’s, chopped nuts
- Spreads and Dips: Nutella, peanut butter, lemon curd, strawberry preserves
- Garnishes: sea salt, sprinkles, cooked bacon crumbles
How To Assemble
- Choose a favorite board or serving dishes for the s’mores board.
- Place loose ingredients (small candies, jellies, peanut butter, etc.) into bowls or individual dishes.
- Place those bowls on the board or buffet first.
- Arrange other ingredients around the bowls.
- Don’t forget to have skewers, and roasting sticks available.
Tips For Assembling The S’mores Board
- Use any large surface board or platter to display all the ingredients. If you already have a charcuterie board that you use, that would be perfect. You can even use a large baking tray. Here’s a simple serving tray that would be great for displaying all the ingredients.
- Place any bowls containing dips, spreads, nuts, or sprinkles on the board first so you can work around them with the other items.
- Place the larger items like crackers, cookies, marshmallows, candies, chocolates, and fruits on next. Keep like items together and display them in stacks, piles, or artfully fan them out. It’s totally okay to overlap items.
- Make sure all of the board is covered.
- Have your skewers placed next to the board as well as small plates and napkins.
How To Roast The S’mores
No matter how you end up roasting your s’mores, make sure you’re being safe if you’ll be dealing with an open flame source. You’ll want to use long, extendable stainless steel roasting sticks like these.
- Campfire: If you’re going the traditional route and are outside, building a campfire is always a rustic way to go.
- Fire Pit: Another outside roasting source is to cook them over a fire pit on your deck or patio.
- Microwave: If you’re inside, it’s perfectly acceptable to microwave your s’mores. Use a microwave-safe plate, set your s’mores on it without the top cracker, and cook for approximately 15-20 seconds on medium – just long enough to melt the chocolate and marshmallows a bit. Take it out and put the top cracker on and enjoy.
- Oven: You can also use a toaster oven or regular oven if you’re cooking a large batch for a group. Set all the s’mores, without the top crackers, on a baking sheet and broil for 1-2 minutes until the chocolate begins to melt and the marshmallows start to turn golden. Remove from the oven and add the top crackers and enjoy.
