Ingredients Needed:

Spiral Sliced Ham – choose a bone-in, fully cooked, spiral ham between 9-12 pounds.
Butter – use unsalted. The melted butter is part of the glaze for the ham
Maple Syrup – use pure maple syrup for great flavor. The maple syrup is part of the glaze.
Brown Sugar – I like to use dark for a classic look, but light brown sugar works just fine, too.
Crushed pecans – chop them by hand or purchase them pre-chopped. The pecans help make the praline glaze.
Sweet Potatoes – peeled and chopped. They bake along with the ham for an easy side item that benefits from the buttery and sugary glaze drippings.

How Long Do I Bake The Ham?

How long the ham stays in the oven depends on the size. Look at the wrapping and packaging that the ham came in to determine how long to bake it depending on the weight that you purchased.

Generally, the baking time is 20 minutes per pound. You’ll want to check before you pull it out of the oven for good that the internal temperature of the ham is 140 degrees F. Use a cooking thermometer to double-check.

Do I Need To Cover The Ham While It’s Baking?

No, you don’t need to cover it. However, it doesn’t hurt to cover it with a tent of foil if you’re worried about it drying out.

That said, for this recipe, I would not cover it during the last 30 minutes of baking simply because I want the outer layer of brown sugar, and pecans to form a pretty crust.

Can I Make This In A Slow Cooker?

Yes, just follow the directions and place it in your slow cooker instead of your oven. However, you’ll need to remove it from the slow cooker and add the brown sugar and pecans and bake in the oven for the final 30 minutes in order for it to create the outer sweet pecan crust.
